LTA Instructor Core Training Level 2
A four day qualification ideal for:
- Coaches who want to run groups on their own or manage groups of coaches in running group lessons
- Coaches looking to develop their tactical and technical knowledge of Tennis
- Coaches looking to adapt their coaching to different ages and stages
Prerequisites
Before you will be able to start the Core Training, you will need to:
- Hold an LTA Assistant qualification
- Hold an LTA DBS Enhanced Check (with Child Barred List) applied for in the last 12 months.
- Hold a rating of 7.1 or higher or complete the LTA Instructor Readiness Test (Cost £45)
Course Outcomes
Competencies
During the course you will:
- Be able to provide general coaching advice across physical, mental, tactical and technical domains
- Plan and deliver structured lessons from official LTA Adult and Junior coaching products
- Develop more advanced skills in communication and organisation
- Gain introductory knowledge of ‘observation and analysis’ of players
- Understand basic principles of skill acquisition, safeguarding and player development
Knowledge and Skills
During the course you will develop:
- More advanced communication and organisation skills
- Understanding of tactical, technical, physical and mental skills appropriate to various ages and abilities
- Observation and analysis skills to identify how to help players develop
- An understanding of the supporting programmes provided by the LTA for you to use in your coaching
What's included?
Core Training
4 days of face-to-face training delivered by an expert tutor.
Experience
x 8 hours of coaching experience (1x 4 hours with juniors, 1x 4 hours with adults) working with a lead coach to deliver group coaching sessions.
Online Learning
Comprehensive on-line learning system which supports face-to-face delivery. This includes supporting documents and video as well as online tests and video submissions.
Assessment
The LTA Final assessment: Final assessments are conducted during a real-life lesson of your choice, at a venue of your choice. Assessments are recorded by you (using smartphone equipment) and then submitted virtually by video upload. The assessment is booked through the LTA website (Cost £55) where it will be externally assessed by the LTA.
Before booking your assessment, you will need to complete:
- A one-day Emergency First Aid at work course. Cost £120.
- L2 Elective: This can be one of 30+ Drills and Games to End a Lesson or Repetition vs Realism. Cost £60 in 2026.
